Doctor Who 3.07/3.08: "Human Nature"/"The Family of Blood"
New Doctor Who Serial Two years ago, in “Father’s Day”, Paul Cornell’s first script for the series, there was a moment where a bride and groom talked of meeting waiting for a taxi, when the Doctor admitted, with a hint of regret, that “I could never have a life like that”. This two-parter spins off from that moment, giving us a chance to contemplate how very different the Doctor is from us ordinary mortals.

The BBC has insisted that the future of Doctor Who's executive producer, Russell T Davies, "has not yet been decided" in spite of reports today that he will quit the hit show after the next series.

A BBC drama spokeswoman said that Mr Davies has signed up to oversee this year's Doctor Who Christmas special and 2008's fourth series.

However, she added that his involvement with Doctor Who after that has not been confirmed.

Agyeman Not Leaving Who
New Doctor Who Serial The official Web site of Freema Agyeman, who plays Martha Jones on the third season of the BBC's Doctor Who, shot down rumors that the actress would be leaving the series. The site posted a statement from the BBC: "It is absolute rubbish that Freema Agyeman has been axed or sacked from Doctor Who. However we do not comment on future storylines."

The statement came in reaction to a story published in the British tabloid The Sun, which said that Agyeman was being axed because "show chiefs think her performance is not as strong as in her earlier episodes."

Agyeman joined the series opposite star David Tennant at the beginning of season three, following in the footsteps of Billie Piper, who played the Doctor's companion, Rose Tyler, in the first two seasons.

The third season of Doctor Who is currently airing in the United Kingdom on BBC One. It will begin airing in the United States on SCI FI Channel in July.

New Doctor Who Serial The speculation went on for ages, but we were still shocked to hear that Billie Piper will be leaving Doctor Who. So who's going to take her place in the Tardis as David Tennant's assistant in the next series? It's thought that BBC bosses have already chosen the Doctor's new sidekick, but they're not saying who it is. But the rumblings are that a former Crossroads actress could be the girl in the frame.

Who's Cybermen Lighten Up

Davies told SCI FI Wire that writer Tom MacRae's original story for the upcoming Cybermen episodes was much darker than the version that will debut on Britain's BBC1 on May 13. In the two-art story "Rise of the Cybermen"/"The Age of Steel," the Doctor (David Tennant), Rose Tyler (Billie Piper) and Mickey (Noel Clarke) find themselves trapped on an alternate Earth where a mad scientist is trying to transform the human race into bio-mechanical creatures.

Doctor Who preview: episode five, "Rise of the Cybermen"
New Doctor Who Serial If the new season is doing one thing, it’s demonstrating the infinite flexibility of this show’s format. So it is that we move on from a century-hopping surrealist romance to an episode that’s surprisingly tough. Directed by Who veteran Graeme Harper, the opening salvo in this two-parter is as close as Who gets to James Bond. Megalomaniac villain? Check. Tuxedo? Check. Machine guns? Check!

Cybermen Unveiled In Who

Who Blitzes WWII London
New Doctor Who Serial LONDON—Steven Moffat, who wrote the Doctor Who first-season episodes "The Empty Child" and "The Doctor Dances," told SCI FI Wire that he was surprised by the overwhelmingly positive response to the two-parter, which makes its U.S. debut on SCI FI Channel May 5 and May 12 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. "I have to be modest and say they did go over exceptionally well," Moffat said in an interview. The episodes were recently nominated for a coveted Hugo Award for best dramatic presentation, short form. "But you never really know," he added. "You end up doing interviews in which you explain how brilliant you are and how you thought of all these great ideas, but it's not like that at all. You really have no idea if it's going to be the biggest slop or the biggest success. I didn't know the story was going to be as powerful as it was, and I certainly had no idea there would be kids saying, 'Are you my Mummy?' So that was all very exciting."

Smith, K9 Beguile Who Helmer
New Doctor Who Serial ONDON—James Hawes—director of the upcoming second-seaon Doctor Who episode "School Reunion," airing this weekend in Great Britain—told SCI FI Wire that it's one of his favorite pieces of work on the series to date. "I think it's going to surprise a lot of people," Hawes said in an interview. He also directed the Who episodes "The Christmas Invasion" and "New Earth," as well as the two-part first-season episodes "The Empty Child"/"The Doctor Dances," which air in the United States on SCI FI Channel at 9 p.m. ET/PT on May 5 and 12.

Who Revives Sarah Jane, K9
New Doctor Who Serial LONDON—Toby Whithouse—writer of the upcoming second-season Doctor Who episode that brings back former companions Sarah Jane Smith and K9—admitted to SCI FI Wire that he wasn't as rabid a Who fan as his fellow writers. "I could probably name all the Doctors in the right order, and maybe four monsters, so I thought that made me quite a big fan—until I met the other writers and realized that I knew absolutely nothing!" Whithouse said in an interview. "They were genuine lifelong fans, so whereas I'd be standing much more on the sidelines holding the coats, they had all been immersed in that world for most of their lives."

Whithouse's episode, titled "School Reunion," airs on BBC1 in the United Kingdom on April 29 and marks the return of the Doctor's faithful robot dog K9 (John Leeson) and his previous companion Smith, played by Elisabeth Sladen.

Who's New Wolf Howls
New Doctor Who Serial LONDON—Dave Houghton, visual effects supervisor on the BBC's SF hit series Doctor Who, told SCI FI Wire that his technicians broke ground to create a computer-generated werewolf for the upcoming second-season episode "Tooth and Claw," airing this week in the United Kingdom. "Our modelers and animators have worked on films like Harry Potter," Houghton said in an interview. "So they were very well aware of what they could achieve in the time allowed, and we planned the episode accordingly. We were in talks with [executive producer] Russell T. Davies quite early on, even before the script was written, to determine how much could be done, and what we've done is very good in terms of TV or even for film. I think our werewolf is the best creature we've done for the show so far. It's fantastic.
