Battlestar Galactica gets the chop
Battle Star Galactica From SFX.COM

The rumours have been circulating for a while, but now it's official: Battlestar Galactica will come to an end once next year's 22 episodes have finished airing. Confirmation came in a statement by executive producers Ronald D Moore and David Eick to industry mag Variety.

"This show was always meant to have a beginning, a middle and, finally, an end," the statement reads. "Over the course of the last year, the story and the characters have been moving strongly toward that end, and we've decided to listen to those internal voices and conclude the show on our own terms."

The news doesn't come as a great surprise - although the series has (quite rightly) received enormous critical acclaim, it hasn't grabbed great ratings. We're just thankful that the Sci Fi Channel have stuck with the show long enough to give it a proper ending, rather than axeing it prematurely and leaving plot threads dangling.

The show is due to return for that fourth and final season in January. You'll have to excuse us now, we have to go and have a little cry.
