Maureen O'Brien Returns to Who |
After keeping a distance from Doctor Who for many years, Maureen O'Brien is set to guest-star along side Colin Baker and Nicola Bryant in next January's Doctor Who audio play from Big Finish, entitled Year of the Pig. Maureen will be playing Miss Alice Bultitude, a slightly dotty collector of theatrical ephemera.
Maureen previously appeared in Doctor Who on television in 1965 as the orphaned Vicki and travelled in the TARDIS with the first Doctor as played by William Hartnell. Vicki's final appearance in the series was in the story, The Myth Makers where she takes the name Cressida and leaves the TARDIS to marry Troilus.
After leaving Doctor Who, Maureen has enjoyed a highly successful career as an actress on both stage and screen. She is also the author of the popular John Bright detective novels.
Doctor Who - Year of the Pig, by Matthew Sweet, will be released on double-CD in January next year. As well as Colin Baker, Nicola Bryant and Maureen O'Brien, the play stars one time Blake's 7 star Michael Keating as Inspector Chardalot, Paul Brooke as Toby and former EastEnders actress Adjoa Andoh as Nurse Albertine. Adjoa has recently been seen on television as the sister in New Earth, the first episode of the latest Doctor Who TV series. The story is set in Nineteenth Century Ostend where the Doctor and Peri become embroiled in an attempt to locate theatre legend Toby the Sapient Pig.
Big Finish have also announced the casting for July's release, The Nowhere Place by Nicholas Briggs. The play guest-stars Bad Wolf's Martha Cope and Dalek's John Schwab who star with Colin Baker and Maggie Stables.
In the first of September 2006's two linked plays, The Reaping by Joseph Lidster, Colin Baker and Nicola Bryant are joined by former Babylon 5 actor, Claudia Christian as Janine Foster, Peri's mom. Also in the cast is Terrahawks legend, Denise Bryer as Dominique van Gysegham.
